Freeda Roberts

Freeda Roberts is a Saltwater Dunghutti Artist from South West Rocks. She grew up on Figtree Reserve and draws inspiration from the stories and memories of growing up on Dunghutti Country.

Living on Dunghutti Country, it is important to highlight the different landscape this country is. ‘From the Mountain to the Sea’ is a key concept in most of Freeda’s stories as it is a part of her grandmother’s journey. The concepts of family, kin and the connection to the land, sea and animals are heavily incorporated into her artworks.

In her words… “Being Aboriginal, we have a responsibility to care for the animals, lands, seas and skies. I love incorporating these into my artworks as it my way of showcasing the importance of looking after our environment.”

Freeda is the artist behind Dunghutti Creations. In 2018, she started sharing her artwork with everyone. Since then, she has worked with a number of organisations, such as Melville High School, South West Rocks Primary School, South West Rocks Surf Life Saving Club, The Australian Marine Conservation Society, Kempsey Shire Council, Durri ACMS and she works closely with South West Rocks Figtree Aboriginal Corporation.

However, Freeda mostly works on commissions to create personalised artworks for people, incorporating their own stories. In 2021, Freeda started incorporating digital art into her work and offers a range of services including custom Aboriginal tattoo designs, web-design, logos and digital artworks.
